Two of the world’s largest daily fantasy sports companies, DraftKings and FanDuel, have agreed a fast tracked court schedule with Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan.
This follows a decision by Madigan that daily fantasy sports constitute illegal gambling and as such would no longer be allowed in the state of Illinois.
Both DraftKings and FanDuel have filed litigation against this opinion, and as such Madigan and her office will need to respond to the complaints by January 22nd. Both parties will then have until April 28th to complete the discovery phase and, should it be deemed necessary, a trial will take place in late June.
Most importantly for the daily fantasy sports sites it means that they are able to continue to legally offer their services in the state in the meantime.
Randy Mastro, DraftKings legal representative, announced the deal and his confidence that his client will win any ensuing court battle.
