The Aria Super High Roller Bowl has dominated talk over the weekend. New Jersey is prepared to recognize fantasy sports as separate from gambling. PartyPoker unveils its new Diamond Club. These stories and more in today’s Hit and Run weekend recap.
Byron Kaverman With the Million
Day one of the Super High Roller Bowl is in the books. Twelve of the original 56 players have fallen, and it’s 2015 GPI Player of the Year Byron Kaverman leading the pack at this early stage. He was the lucky beneficiary of a boat-over-boat situation early on and continued grinding up his stack through the rest of the day, ending up the only player to have turned his 300,000 starting stack into a million. He finished the day with 1,247,000, putting him comfortably ahead of Leon Tsoukernick in second with 900,000 and Fedor Holz with 803,000 in third. As if any lead over the likes of Holz is ever truly comfortable.
Chronic prop bettor Bill Perkins was among those eliminated, but that hasn’t stopped him from making SHRB-related bets. He bet an undisclosed amount at 30-1 (in his favor) that one of the 56 players in the SHRB would win this year’s WSOP Main Event. He even made a Twitter poll to see what his followers think of the bet, and it’s astounding that so many people (including Perkins himself, evidently) don’t know the correct answer.
Just booked 30 to 1 for any player in the #shrb to win the main event…..good bet or Bad bet. (I am getting 30 to 1)

– New Jersey has recently been fighting the federal government for the right to reverse its decision 25 years ago not to keep sports betting legal in the state. Although no progress has been made on that front directly, the state has just passed a bill clarifying that fantasy sports contests are, in its lawmakers’ eyes, games of skill and therefore “not gambling.”
– PartyPoker has added a yearly goal to complement its new weekly rewards system. In addition to earning rakeback for weekly volume, professional players can opt in to the Diamond Club program; from that point, they’ll have 12 months to collect 100,000 points (that is, generate $100,000 in rake for the site) in order to qualify for the club, earning additional rakeback and various other perks.
